POLITICS AND HEALTH.

A meeting of tho women's branch of the United Political Party was held in the Society of Arts Hall last evening, the chairwoman, Mrs. N. Von Stunner, presiding. An address on politics, particularly in their relation to women, was given by Dr. I\. M. Beattie. "In the political sphere there are four aspects which demand our particular attention," said Dr. Beattie. "These are finance, land problems and taxation, unemployment and public health." Dealing more extensively with the last aspect, the speaker stressed the need for the establishment of more creches in Auckland. This, he said, would give many mothers the opportun:ty of getting away from the cares of home life during some part of the day. The need for recreation grounds was also touched upon bv Dr. Beattie, the speaker expressing the opinion that the citizens of Auckland should have possession of Motuihi Island. The island was ideally situated, and if cheap buildings were erected there, delicate women and children could be sent there to regain their health.

At the conclusion of his address the speaker was cordially thanked by Mrs. Von Sturmer on behalf of the audience.
