WIDOW CLAIMS DAMAGES.
HUSBAND KILLED BY CAR. £IBOO AWARDED BY COURT. [BY TELEGRAM. —PP.ESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON NORTH. Tuesday. Last week Charles Robertson, a commercial traveller, was acquitted on a charge of negligently driving a motor-car so as to cause the death of James Robert Symonds, a bridge-keeper employed by tho Public Works Department on tho Manawatu Gorge Bridge. This morning in the Supreme Court a civil action was heard, in which Symonds' widow, Elsio Evelyn May Symonds, claimed from Robertson and the Diabolo Separator Company, trading as the New Zealand Farm Separator Company, £2OOO damages for his death. Mr. Justice Blair awarded £IBOO and assessed the widow's interest at one-third. The remainder is to bo held in trust for tho children, except the eldest, who is over 16.
