The Novice Handicap will be contested by a number of young and improving horses and promises to be a good race. Grand Canyon, Mac Locanda and Llewellyn are nicely placed and may command Btrong support. Many of the candidates for the Petone Trot Handicap have recent form to recommend them and it is a decidedly open race. Backers may show a preference for Bon Boy, Wah and Great Way. _ There is material for a good contest in the Bollard Handicap. Aleron reads particularly well placed on the limit and may be favourite. Sir Author and Cornelian may also be in demand. Some useful pacers figure in the Borough Handicap and among them are a number of improvers. Kelp, Haydock and Cushla d'Or are handily placed and may command strong support.

A select field will contest the New Zealand Cup Trial Handicap and the event will arouse considerable interest on account of the presence "of a number of candidates for the New Zealand Trotting Cup. It is sure be a good betting' race and some who may command support are Great Bingen. Linkman aiul Jeaii McElwyn. Some of the candidates for the Short Handicap may be seen out earlier in the. day in. the Novice Handicap, so that form iri the opening event may give a line on the prospeots.. Mao Locanda, Grand Canyon , ajjd Beylet are posaibilities a<nd may be fancied. . , ■ .< The President's Handicap has attracted a useful field and here, again, earlier form mav give a guide to the chances, as many of those engaged will probably compete previously in the Petone Handicap. Bon Boy. Wah and Great Way may be in demand. - The Wellington Handicap bears an open aspect, as there .are a number of improvers engaged. Loiterer, Haydock and Aieron are nicely treated and may be qmong. the . prime fancies. OTAHUHU TROTTING CLUB. SPRING MEETING. The Otahuhu Trotting Club's Spring Meeting is fixed to open this year on Wednesday, November 20, and the second day's racing is to be held ou the succeeding Saturday, November 23. This arrangement, thero is reason to believe, will prove more satisfactory than the old procedure. With a programme showing prize-money to the. amount of £4BOO that should ensure a good list of entries.. The two leading events—the Jellicoe Handicap and the Fergusson Handicap—respectively carry a stake of A'VOO, the Massey Memorial Handicap and Spring Handicap are each worth £350. and "the Campbell Handicap and Visitors' Handicap (both of which are for trotting horses only) each carry a stake of £3OO.
