COST OF TRAMWAY POWER.
Sir, —According to the IVjw Zealand Year Book the price paid for power by the Aucklanc Tramways is 1.20 pence per unit, in comparison wi>h 0.62 pei unit in Christchurch, 0.76 in Dunechn, and 0.86 m Wellington. It would therefore seem that too much ?;!t being paid in Auckland. The difference between the Christchurch and Auckland prices means an extra payment by the Auckland Transport Board of £IB,OOO per annum. If the cost of power were reduced to the Christchurch figure there would be no need to raise fares, and the Transport Board would have a credit balance. Year Book.
