Magnificent weather prevailed for the fourth day of the New Zealand golf tournament, when tho first and second rounds of the amateur championship and tho first round of the professional championship, as well as an amateur bogey handicap, were played. Tho amateur rounds were of 18 holes each and the professional round 36 holes. The results were:—• AMATEUR CHA MPIONSHIP. First Round. T. IT. Horton beat A. C. A. Seymour, 3 up and 2. A. E. BRILLIANT PROFESSIONALS E. J. MOSS IN GREAT FOAM. SHAW'S SPECTACULAR PLAY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WANGANUI, Tuesday. The Auckland professional, E. J. Moss, was the acme of accuracy in the morning round of the professional championship and finished 3 up on Rutter after taking 70 for the round. The Middlemore player's worst holes were two fives, the first and the last, but included in his round were four threes. However, both men played great golf, showing brilliance in every department of the game. On the putting greens their accuracy was almost unnatural. Butter sank three long putts in succession at the eighth, ninth and tenth. , Moss went out in 35 and Rutler in 36, the former coming back in 35 and the latter in 37. On the last green Moss over-ran a long downhill putt, which resulted in the hole costing him five. Rutter's iron work in particular was worthy of special mention. Jn the afternoon Rutter made strenuous efforts to catch his opponent, but Moss held on doggedly, and his golf never deteriorated. In the afternoon round the first hole was halved in fours. Rutter get one back at the next, where he was 7ft. from the pin with his second, and sank his putt. Bogey for the hole is four. Dress Circlo and Exodus were halved in fours aud Moss won the short Sea View with a three to Rutter's four. The sixth was halved in. fives. Moss won the seventh with a three, his second shot, a full brassie, being 3ft. off the pin. Moss was then four up. The next five- holes were halved in 4, 4, 3, 5, 3, but Rutter won Alma with a four (bogey five), and Encampment in four. At the 15th Butter hit his tee shot over the fence and Moss took the hole with a three. Moss sank a 10ft. putt at Bunker's Hill, and won the match 3 and 2. Moss was ono under fours for his afternoon round and three under fours for the whole day's play. A. J." Shaw, winner of the open championship, again played spectacular gelt' and beat T. S. Galloway 8 up and 7. Shaw struck misfortune at the 13th hole in the morning, when he was penalised two for a lost ball. The hole cost him six. Shaw's afternoon card out read: —4, 3, 4, 4, 3, 5, 4, 4, 4—55. The Christchurch professional, C. C. Clements, was 4 up at the turn in the morning on J. D. Mcintosh, but the latter won three holes in succession. Clements came"home in 34 in the afternoon and finished 2 up and 1.
