LADIES' GOLF.
SEMI-FINAL REACHED. MISS KAY'S BRILLIANT PLAY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday. A gentle breeze and a dull sky made conditions perfect for the fourth round of the New Zealand ladies' golf championship at Shirley to-day. Results were:— Mrs. Dodgshun (Otago) beat Miss Barnett (Miramar), 3 and 1. Miss O. Stevens (Otago) beat Mrs. Fraser (Sunningdale, England), 1 up. Miss 0. Kay (Otago) beat Miss Beadel (Christchurch), 7 and 6. Miss Chrystall (Christchurch) beat Mrs. Collinson (Manawatu), 1 up. Miss Kay was expected to beat Miss Beadel, but such an overwhelming victory as 7 up and 6 was not expected. Miss Beadel could not settle to steady golf, her second shots being very often erratic and her drives, although usually straight and long, were at fault badly. Miss Kay. after playing indifferently for the first four holes, settled down to bogey figures and would have beaten any other lady player in tho Dominion on her game today. Miss Chrystall, last year's New Zealand champion, beat Mrs. Collinson, a former champion, by a putt on the homo green. Mrs. Collinson was the steadier player throughout, the round, Miss Chrystall's play being patchy. Tho gamo between Miss Stevens and Mrs. Fraser attracted a gallery which had grown to 200 at the, end of the round. Both players made several remarkably fine shots In tho semi-final to morrow Mrs. Dodgshun plays Miss O. Stevens and Miss Kay plays Miss Chrystall.
