MOTOR TRAFFIC CONTROL.

PATROLLING COUNTRY ROADS COMBINED ACTION FAVOURED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PAEROA. Friday. The suggestion of the Main Highways Board that eight counties and borough councils should combine in the appointment of a traffic inspector, whose sole duty would be to police the roads and streets to check motor speeding and overloading of vehicles, was adopted at a conference attended by delegates from the Paeroa and Tauranga Borough Councils and the Coromandel and Ohinemuri Cpunty Councils. Mr. Colin Mason, chairman of the Ohinemuri County Council, who presided, said he considered the suggestion an excellent one. The Thames County Council and Thames and Waihi Borough Councils had declined co-opera-tion on the ground that they already employed local inspectors. Mr. B. C. Bobbins, Mayor of Tauranga, said he understood the Tauranga County Council was combining with local bodies in the No. 3 highways district. The conference decided to request the No. 2 Highways Council to make the appointment on the suggested lines \ and apportion the cost between local bodies served.
