INTER-ISLAND RUGBY.
NORTH VERSUS SOUTH. TO-DAY'S WELLINGTON MATCH. PERSONNEL OF THE TEAMS. The twenty-fifth inter-Island Rugby match will be played at Wellington today. In matches already played the North Island has been successful in 13 games and the South in nine, while two have been drawn. Tho North has scored 571 points against 237.
More than the usual interest in these fixtures will bo taken in to-day's match in view of the visit of tho British team to' the Dominion next season. It is practically certain the personnel of tho All Blacks to moot tho visiting combination will bo selected from the majority of players participating in the match. The last two games between the toams havo resulted in a win for the South by a single point on each occasion. Last season, however, the teams Were considerably below strength owing to tho best players being in South Africa with tho All Blacks. In most quarters the prospects o! tho North team are strongly fancied for to-day. The South forwards are, however, a very formidable set, and, providing they receive reasonable support from tho rearguard, tho team must havo a good chance of carrying tho day. « A good deal seems to depond on the South threequarter line, which in big football is rather an unknown quantity." 16 is certainly faced by a particularly strong trio in Minns, Lucas and Elvy.
The inability of McWilliams, Auckland, to take his place in the North side will weaken the pack, and, as McLean, Taranaki, is the only reserve forward chosen, he will replace the Aucklander in the scrum.
The match will be played Under international rules, which disallow replacements once the game has commenced. This provision has undoubtedly been made in view of the British matches next season and after the experience gained by the All Blacks in South Africa. International rules are at present in vogue in both South Africa and England. The teams for to-day's match are as follows: .
