Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having received the following cablegram from their London house, dated September 19, regarding the frozen meat market:—
New Zealand Lamb.—Prime Canterbury, 281b to 361b, BAd; North Island, North Island, 7;jd; Canterbury, second quality, 7 5-8 d; North Island, 7 5-8 d; Canterbury, 421b to 501b, 7 7-8 d; North Island, Tho market for New Zealand lamb is tending upward. Tho demand is better.
Now Zealand Mutton.—Primo Canterbury, 481b to 561b, 6Ad; North Island, 6d; Canterbury, 561b to 641b, 6d; North Island, 5 5-8 d; Canterbury, 641b to 721b, s^d; North Island, 5 l-8d; Canterbury owes, 481b to 641b, North Island, 4id. Tho market for Now Zealand mutton is unchanged. Tho demand is better. Beef. —Argentine chilled, hinds 7d, fores 44d; Australian ox hinds, prime, 5Jd. Pork. —English pork, 801b to 1001b, 10d; New Zealand porkers, 801b to 1001b, BAd; 1001b to 1201b, Bd. Tho market for New Zealand pork is nominal. Tho demand is limited.

COAL, OIL (N.Z.), LIMITED.
OPERATIONS IN TARANAKI
Tho drilling plant imported from tho United States by Coal, Oil (N.Z.), Ltd., has been dolivored on tho company's Omata area, near New Plymouth, which has bo,?n gcophysically surveyed by tho Elboi organisation, who selected tho drilling sites. The! steel derrick, 120 ft, high, has been erected, and it is expected boring will bo Commenced within a fow weeks, under the porsonal supervision of Dr. Leon Bossard, tho company's chief geologist, Mr. D. J. Tynan is tho drilling .superintendent, and will bo assisted by two other export drillers, so that work can bo carried on continuously, Tho geophysical survey of tho company's Mt. Arthur dome, on tho east coast of tho North Island, is now proceeding. This dome was selected after detailed geological survoy by Dr! L. Bossard.
Tho manager is at present in Now Zealand, and tho chairman of directors, Senator J. D. Millen, is shortly leaving for tho Dominio'i to he present at tho commencement of tho drilling operations.
MELBOURNE PRODUCE. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. MELBOURNE. Sept. 20. Tho following aro to-day's quotations on tho Melbourne produce markot: — Wheat—ss Bd. Flour—£l2 10s to £l2 155.Bran—£7 10s. Pollard —£4 15s. Oats and Barley—Unchanged. Maize—5s 6d.
MELBOURNE WORKS LOAN. Australian and N,Z. Press Association. LONDON. Sopt. 19. Tho Melbourne Board of Works loan has closed. Tho result is not yet announced, but tho Financial News says it is believed that tho public responso was not so great as tho borrowers might have wished.
