NOTES FROM WANGANUI. [BY TELEGIIAI'H. —OWN COIUtESI'O NDENT. ] WANGANUI. Tuesday, Writing from Sydney. W. Rayner states thufc Pedestal, tho two-year-old half-brother to Commendation, was injured on the trip and in coiisequenco will not raco in Aus' tralia. Tho son of Thespian was going fairly well when ho left hore and it wr.s thought ho would come on Quickly in Sydney and perhaps win a stake aftor a race or two. Cashier won tho Marangai Handicap in a stylo which suggests that ho is likely to win some more important racos this season. Tho son of Paper MoneyIsabel will be nil tho better for a race or two, and by the time tho New Zealand Cup is to be run he should bo in tho pink of condition. With 7.13 in tho big event, Cashier is not over-weighted, and, all going well, ho is likely to bo ono of tho hardest to beat at Riccarton. Some doubt whether ho will stay out the diatanco is expressed, but F. Tilley thinka he will, and Ibe Fordell trainer knows how to get a horse [it for tho big event. Historic arrived here durins last woek, and from appearances ho should be ready to run a good race at Avondalo. With 8.5 in tho Now Zealand Cup Historic will, no doubt, be one of the chief fancies. If Silvermino is taken to Avondalo, he will bo hard to dispose of in his events, ire was* in f'-ont ut five furlongß in tho IvJyimr Handicap at Wanganui ana tho .(ucu was fast.
