Thej first Rugby match -played in Auckland tinder electric light at Blandford Park last evening proved an outstanding success. Teap.l3 representing the Wholesale and Retail houses of Auckland fought out an exceedingly fast game, which resulted in a. win fOr the former by 10 points to 10. Included in each team were leading players of senior club 3 in Auckland. The mutch I)roved easily ono of the best seen in Auckland for soino time, the bright passing and spectacular movements of cither side thrilling a delighted attendance of about 1000 spectators. One of the features of the game was the brilliant display given by J&nson. the /Wholesale fullback, who repeatedly, left the opposition standing in opeedy mul tricky runß. The proceeds of £SO will bo given to charity, but the money for tickets sold has yet to bo added to this sum.

The Thames Rugby Union last evening leceiyed permission from the Thames County Council for its engineer to assist in improving Rhodes Park, which has been unfit Jov play for several months. Tho Coroznundel Union withdrew a challenge for the Birch Cup. There was a long discussion on a letter from the Physical Training Club, suggesting an outside referee for Suturday'3 senior final match with Old Boys. It was resolved to appoint a local referee.
