TERROR OF ROADS.

MASKED MOTOR BANDIT.

SOUTH AFRICAN CRIMES

CAPETOWN. Aug. 13

The Cape Peninsula has been profoundly disturbed in the past few days by the activities of an armed and masked lfiotor bandit, who held up two motor-buses late at night, escaping with the conductors' cash. It is believed that the same man rang up a taxi stand in Adderley Street, from where a taxidriver proceeded to the spot named by the mysterious caller on a lonely suburban road. The taxidriver's body was found late at night—be had been shot through the heart—and his ear was found abandoned at the foot of Adderley Street. Four further outrages of a similar character have occurred in 'the past 24 hours, motorists having been fired upon by a masked man.

A large posse of police to-jiight concentrated on a lonely area near Capetown in the hope of capturing the bandit, who is supposed to be a homicidal maniac.
