PRINCE GOING TO JAMBOREE

Ain l Although the weather at Arrowo Park, Birkenhead, in tho last few days has been stormy the 50 000 Boy S'couts in camp there remain extremely cheerful. Lads of various nationalities have rapidly reached terms of friendly intimacy with one annt her.
The Prince ot Wales is to fly to Birkenhead from London to-day. lie will stav under canvas in the Scouts' camp to night.
While tho Prince is at Arrowe Park bo will live under tho same condition!; as his fellow-Scouts. His tent has been pitched on a strip of lawn shaded by trees in front of Arrowo Hall. It contains only a cainp bed, vv.ishstand, tablo and chair.
Sir Robert Baden-Powell, who will be tho Prince's equerry, will have a tont alongside. , Mr. Mortimer Schiff, a millionaire American banker, vice-president of the American Boy Scouts' organisation, has handed to His Royal Highness a cheque for £IO,OOO to establish' a fund foi the promotion of a Boys' International Fellowship, which tho Chief Scout will direct from London.
The story of tho world jamboree of Boy Scouts, now being held at Arrowe Park. Birkenhead, is to be recorded from day to day by the Canadian contingent, with carvings on a 24-foot tree trunk. Only tho initiated few, however, will be able to read what*is written, for a Red Indian totem script, used in the forests from time immemorial, will bo used. Coloured scouts from Nigeria v.-iil show fearsome native dances, including the Yoruba. lbo, and Efik, in appropriate dress. Accompaniments will be supplied by native drums. Hindu Scouts will demonstrate tho fine art of tumbling, wliilo tho Cingalese have arranged a pageant of Old Ceylon. Greek Scouts will organise a classical performance. An interesting feature of the camp is tho market, which contains a street of wooden shops, mainly branches of London or provincial firms, catering for every possible want.

(Received August 2, 11.5 p.m.) LONDON", Auk. 1 King Georpe has approved that a barony bo .conferred upon Lieutenant-General Sir Robert Baden-Powell, founder of tho Boy Scout movement. Tho newspapers say tho Chief Scout's peerage is a fitting climax to his 21 years' service in tho Boy Scout movement, which has made his name a household word throughout the world.
Lieutenant-General Sir Robert S. S\ Baden-Powell was born in 1857. Ho entered tho Army and saw service in India and South Africa. lie came into prominence for his gallant defence of Mafekirig in tlie course of tho Boer War in 1899 1900. 110 founded -the Boy Scout and Girl Guide organisations in 1908 to promote good citizenship, and has written many books about scouting. Ho was created a baronet in 1922.
