REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH. Friday. ■ Splendid weather following a hard frost prevailed to-day. and there is every promiso of a fine day and good track conditions for to-morrow's Christchurch Xlunt Meeting, Of the small field for tho opening event, the Kennels Hurdle Handicap, Guy Jim lias done such good track work lately that his prospects look very favourable. Barrington also drew attention to his chance b> his attractive schooling yesterday. Ju=t John has North Island form to his credit. The indications are that Gay Jim. Barrington and Just John will be well supported. Waitaunaha's winning form at Welling ton points to him being sent out a firm favourite for the Lawford Steeplechase. Silver Light is the only other horse with many supporters. An interesting race is promised in tho Longbeach Hurdles and the fonn of tho four Grand National Hurdle Race candidates engaged in the field will be closely scrutinised. Tho public will probably direct most attention to Lancer, Aberl'eldy and Elysianor. The Maiden Stakes has attracted some useful candidates and speculation should assume a wide range. Desert Song, Kentish Lady and Grand Song may run well. With Radiate a doubtful starter and Young Thurnham suffering from aento lameness the contest for the Homeby Stoeplochase will be seriously affected. King's Guard will probably start favourite. Fabrip.no will lack a certain amount of pupport owing to a doubt regarding his ability to master the big fences, but it h&3 to bo borne in mind that ho-is a better performer on the top of the ground than under the track conditions he encountered recently Lord Ranald will be put to his first serious test. He is a bold, fast fencer and will be responsible for a fast pace.
Several Winter Cup acceptors fignre in the Brabazon Handicap, which promises to bo keenly contested. Kins Balboa will be the elect of backers, and Overdrawn and Prickles will also bo in demand. A number of those carded in the Hunters' Plate Handicap aro engaged earlier and much will depend on their programme. It is worth recording that two years ar;o Gay Jim ran second in the Kennels Hurdles and then won tho Hunters' Plate. Barlincton would be a proposition if Gay Jim, Whitller and Exide mako most appeal. A well balanced field will parado for tho concluding event, tho Flying Hack Handicap. and a trio likely to be well supported comprise Red Boa. Huntley and Honeycomb.
