[by telegraph.—own* correspondent.]
PUKEKOHE. Friday. The opinion that legislation would be introduced by the Government within a fortnight to control the hours which Chinese fruiterers and other Asiatics could work to the detriment of those in competition with them, and to fix a standard of wages for natives employed by Asiatics was expressed by the secretary, Mr. G. T. Parvin. at a mooting of tho While New Zealand League at Pukekohe last evening. Tho Minister of Labour, tho Hon. W. A. Yeitch,. was anxious to put Asiatic competition on a basis which was fair to others in the same occupations, said Sir. Parvin.
The speaker further announced that the Minister of Customs, tho Hon. W. B. Taverner. had assured him that the restriction under which Asiatics were not permitted at present to enter New Zealand to take up permanent residence would be continued.
It was resolved that the league draw the attention of the Government to the seriousness of the problem caused by Asiatics living with native women, and that the league support (lie representations put forward by the Akarana Native Association in this regard.
