SOUTH CANTERBURY BEATEN. PLAY ON HEAVY GROUND. [ns TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] TIMARU, Thursday. The Australian hockey team defeated South Canterbury at Geraldino to-day by 4 goals to 1. The ground was heavy and this handicapped the players. The home team put up a good fight, but tho combination of the visitors was tho deciding factor. Australia had the better of play in tho first half and led at tho interval by 3 goals to 0. South Canterbury improved in tho second half, but the forwards lacked finish, and good scoring chances were thrown awav. In spite of tho heavy ground the game was an interesting one.
