MANY ENTERTAINMENTS.

BUSY TIME FOR VISITORS.

WARSHIP OPEN TO PUBLIC TO-DAY

So great is Auckland's hospitality to tho officers and men of tho French cruiser Tourvillo that tho visitor* are having an exceedingly busy time fulfilling their engagements.

Many private parties , were conducted over the ship yesterday. Ono party included members of tho New Zealand Institute of Marino and Power Engineers, who wcro specially shown the propelling machinery, and were immensely impressed with its up-to-date features.

Archbishop Averill, representatives of tho Auckland branch of tho Returned Soldiers' Association, tho Auckland Officers' Club, tho Northern Club, and tho chief executive officers of tho Navy Leaguo, accompanied by (heir wivos, were also visitors to the ship yesterday.

Captain Abrial and a number of his officers, together with the French Consul, M. Paul Sorre, wore the quests of the committeo of tho Northern Club at luncheon yesterday, while six petty officers and a number of men wore entertained by the Optimists' Club at luncheon at the Y.M.C.A.

In the afternoon ten cars were provided by the Auckland Automobile Association to motor the visitors to places of interest in tho city. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Captain Abrial and a number of officers of tho Tourville weie the guests of the committeo of the Auckland Club at an At Home, where a very pleasant time was spent. Later Captain Abrial and five officers were tin. guests of tho Belgian Consul, Mr. A. M. Ferguson, at dinner. Officers of the Tourville were tho guests of honour at dinner on If.M.S. Diomedo last evening, and later there was a ball on board for 200 officers and men of the visiting cruiser. A social for 20 petty officers and men was also given by the Legion ot Frontiersmen last evening. Jo-day will be tho first opportunity tho public will have of inspecting the cruiser, which will be thrown open from 1.30 p.m. t0'4.30 p.m. Arrangements have been made fot school members of tho Navy League to be shown over the warship on Monday next at 2 p.m. Captain Abrial and twelve officers will loavo to-day for Rotorua, returning on Sunday On Saturday 40 men from H.M.S. Diomede will lunch on board tho Tourville.
