FIRE ON STEAMER.
PAKIPAKI AT NEW YORK. CARGO FOR NEW ZEALAND. [by telegraph.—press association.] WELLINGTON, Friday. Advice has been received thai the Pakipaki, 7166 tons, which is loading in America for New ports, has been on fire at New York. The fire has been extinguished in No. 1 hold, and No. 2 hold is flooded. Considerable damage has been done to the cargo loaded at NewYork. This included oils, motor-cars and general merchandise. The Pakipaki was to have left New York on July 15 for Auckland. Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin. The Pakipaki is a steamer of 7166 tons gross and is owned by the Federal Steam Navigation Company, London. She was formerly owned by the Hain Line and her name then was Trewinnara. She has not visited Auckland. She has general merchandise for discharge at New Zealand ports.
