STAMP MACHINES.

Sir, —'May I ask why the last Government stopped the sale of postage stamps in the shops? One cannot get a stamp now without ■ going to a post office. Hundreds of people never go near one. Sir Joseph Ward brought in penny postage to New Zealand, adding thousands of pounds to the Treasury. Now those thousands will bo lost to it, because you cannot buy a stamp at shops near a post box. 1 think it would pay better to have more stamp machines about. I had to go out one pouring wet night half-way up Symonds Street to post an important letter, as that was the nearest place 1 could get to a stamp machine. People will simply drop a lot of correspondence if put to so much inconvenience. What about a machine for stamped envelopes on the principle 'of stamp machines ? inconvenience.
