TRAMWAYMEN'S UNION.

OFFICERS RE-ELECTED.

SEQUEL TO RECENT DISPUTE

In view of tho dispute between the Tramways Union and the Auckland Transport Board over a resolution appearing on tho union's minutes moro than usual interest attaches to the recent election of officers of the union, conducted among tho members by secret ballot. It resulted in the return of the outgoing ofiicets and committee, including tho president, Mr. P. Carr, the vice-president, Mr. F. E. Martin, the treasurer, Mr. W. C. Wiils, and the secretary, Mr. <T. Liddell. As tho ballot has been held during the height of the dispute with tho Transport Board, it may be taken that the result, of tho plection reflects the confidence of the union's rank and fdo in the line of policy pursued by the executive over the maLter. In correspondence and several interviews with the Transport Board tho union's officials have insisted upon the legality of tho resolution, which castigates certain members of the union for giving evidence for tho management in an appeal case. The resolution, it is maintained, is " in accordance with law and within the scope of the union's authority," and the demand of the Transport Board that it be expunged from the books is resented as an interference in the union's domestic affairs.

It was suggested by a member if the Transport Board at the last meeting of that body that tho rank and file of the union were being " led away by bad leaders." The rank and file's answer has now been to express its confidence in those leaders.

Tho union has not yet replied to tho Transport Board's suggestion that the dispute should be referred to arbitration.
