INTOXICATED DRIVER
EARLY MORNING INCIDENT
MAN FOUND SITTING IN CAR.
PROHIBITION ORDER ISSUED. In addition to a fmo of £2O the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., ordered the issue of a prohibition order when George Edward Osborno, aged 29, a mechanic, was convicted in tho Polico Court yesterday on a charge of being found intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car in Graham Street at an parly hour on Sunday morning. On behalf of Osborne, Mr. Wallace entered a plea of guilty. Sub-Inspector McCarthy stated accused was found sitting in a motor-car in Graham Street at '1.30 on Sunday morn ing When accused was asked by a constable to get out it was seen that ho was drunk Accused was not actually seen driving iho car, which was standing in a dark street.
" This young man had been to a dance, and ho drove to Graham Street, where the car was kept," said Mr. Wallace. When accused stopped tho car ho had done all tho driving he was going to do, and thought it would !>o safe to havo a drink ii om a bottle ol whisky. He intended to steep at a friend's house near where tho car was parked, and was not intending to drive any further. Asking for leniency, Mr. Wallaco added that accused was not tho owner of tho car, which ho had borrowed. " Is this man prepared to take out a prohibition order?" asked the magistrate. When counsel agreed to do this, tho magistrate imposed a line of £2O, allowing accused 14 days in which to pay.
