KING'S COLLEGE.
OLD BOYS' ASSOCIATION,
WAR ROLL OF HONOUR.
. ADDRESS BY PRINCIPAL. The annual meeting of tho King's Collego Old Boys' Association was held last evening, tho retiring president, Mr. K. It Wilson, presiding over a largo attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet, as published in tho Herald on May 31, was adopted. Reference was made to the sound financial position, which showed a balance of income over expenditure of £156 18s lOd, more than double tho balance carried forward from tho previous year.
The president said Mr. C. E. Major, lato headmaster of King's College, had expressed the opinion that a roll of honour of tho old boys of King's College and St. John's College who had served in tho war should be established. Arrangements wero made with those present to forward the names of any old boys eligible for inclusion in the roll.
Mr. Wilson paid a tribute to tho work of Mr. A. 11. Marsack, tho editor of the old boys' section of the school maganino. Ho proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. E. A. Blomfield for his generosity in providing a room which had served as the headquarters of the association. Steady Progress Made. "I want to congratulate the Old Boys' Association on the steady progress they are making, and I want everybody to understand how grateful I am to the presidents and committees for their work since I have been connected with the collego," said tho Rev. H. K. Archdall, headmaster of King's College. " The gymnasium is a very big step forward, and I am prou<J of tho young fellows who havo had the grit and determincition to carry on the work they are doing," he said, speaking of the gymnasium for boys which four old boys had established at Ponsonby. A collection, amounting to nearly £B, was made to provide equipment for the gymnasium. " I am very delighted to find that many of the old boys are feeling that the suitable place for their marriage is the school chapel," said Mr. Archdall. It was good to see that a large number of old boys came from all parts of the North Island to attend the reunions. The strength of King's College was in Auckland, but to get a nucleus of old boys in every centre of the Dominion was the most strategic thing they could do. Link of Two Schools. Mr. Archdall expressed his appreciation of the fact that many old boys living away from Auckland were encouraging their friends to send their boys first to King's School and then to the college. " I would rather have at the college one boy from our own preparatory school than two from any other establishment," he added.
"We are trying to carry out at the school the traditions that the old boys have established," said the Rev. J. G. Castle, headmaster of King's School. "We are absolutely at one in the big things we are trying to do at the college and at the school."
