KING'S BIRTHDAY DINNER.
The consular dinner, which is held every year at the Grand Hotel ,on the eve of the King's Birthday, was held on Saturday evening, as the birthday falls today.
The dean, M. Paul Serre, expressed his regrets at being unable to welcome Mr. W. P. Cochran, American Vice-Consul, who left two days ago for Wellington, where ho has been transferred to the Consulate-General. He expressed the hopo that Mr. Cochran and his wife may soon return to Auckland,- and wished him every success in his career.
M. Serre wished "bon voyage" to Mr. L. A. Bachelder, American Vice-Consul and a former deputy-dean of tho corps, who is going to his native city of Massachusetts, which lie has not seen for 20 years, He also gave news received from Mr. A. E. lvernot, a member of the corps, wlio never missed the yearly banquet and who has recently left Rome for London. Tho de'pn congratulated Mr. J. A. C. Allum, Consul for Switzerland, on his re-election as member'of the Auckland Transport Board. The congratulations of tho corps were expressed to the deputy-dean, Mr. A. M. Ferguson, for the honour recently conferred upon him by the King of Belgium, in recognition of the valuably services he has rendered to that country. The toast-list included that of tho King, the Governor-General and family, proposad by M. Serre, the Prime Minister and members of tile Cabinet, by Mr. A. M. Ferguson, and the executive and members of the consular corps in Wellington, by tho American Consul, Sir. W. F. Boyle.
