HOTEL BURNED DOWN.

BUILDING AT KUMARA. OTHER PREMISES DAMAGED. [DY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. J GREYMOUTH, Saturday. Tho Commercial Hotel at Kumara was destroyed by firo early tins morning. The origin of the outbreak is unknown. Mr. Taylor is the licensee. There were insurances on the furniture and personal effects of £2BO, in the Guardian Oflico. The buildings, owned by Messrs. Massey and Roberts, were insured for £450. Adjoining premises and stock were damaged, no water being available.

DESTRUCTION OF COTTAGE

A cottage on the main road on the Howick side of the Panmuro Bridge, owned by Mr. F. Prohl, of 48, Gollingwood Street, Ponsonby, was completely destroyed by fire early on Saturdav morning. There was no water available, and nothing could be done to save the building. - . An empty motor-van, owned by Mr. N. Cunningham, trainer, of Ellerslie, and used for transporting racehorses, caught fiie on the Great South Road noar Penrose on Saturday evening at about seven o'clock. The Ellerslie Fire Brigade extinguished tho outbreak beforo much damage was done. A new car, owned by Mr. J. Wliiteford Waugh, of Epsoin, back-fired and burst into flames on the Mount Eden Road at 11.15 a.m. yesterday. The damage was confined to the engine.
