BREACH OF THE LAW. GREAT FUNCTION RECALLED. [by telegraph.—press association.] INVERCAHGILL, Thursday Members of the committeo which organised tho great banquet given recently in honour of Sir Joseph Ward were prosecuted to-day for breaking the Licensing Act by permitting liquor to be dispensed at the banquet. The police stated that the offence was not of the usual type, and the function was most orderly. Tho magistrate said the occasion was unique, but the law had to be vindicated. He imposed a fine of £5.
