BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING. UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF WORK. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Wednesday. The Hamilton Borough Council met this evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. B. Fow, presiding. The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, wrote acknowledging receipt of a letter from the council regarding the prohibition of hoardings. He advised that the matter would receive consideration when legislation was under review. A communication was received from the Main Highways Board stating that the allocation of petrol tax for the period ended March 31 had been fixed at £461. In answer to a request .from the Returned Soldiers' Association it was decided to subsidise the sum of £75 provided by the association for unemployment relief work in Hamilton. The Mayor said it was not the intention of the council to provide general relief work before the Winter Show. There would, however, bo a definitely limited amount given to deserving cases. Proposed extensions to the gas system, to be carried out at an estimated cost of £SOO, were authorised. Building permits for April totalled £18,186, compared with for the corresponding month last year. Notice that he intended lodging an appeal against the time-table allotted to him was received from Mr. C. W. F. Trethowen, bus proprietor. Mr. Trethowen recently secured tho permission of the Transport Appeal Board to run a bus j service from Hamilton to Cambridge after his application had been refused by the local licensing authority on tho grounds that there was already an adequate service provided by Mr. 11. Innes-Jones.
