SENTRY WHO VANISHED.
ARREST IN SCOTLAND. TAKEN BACK TO LONDON. Australian nnd N.Z. Press Association; (Received May 11. 9.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 13. The sentry of the Scots Guards who disappeared from Buckingham Palace early on the morning of May 1 returned to the home of liis parents at Inverness at the week-end. He was apprehended and brought to London.
A cablegram from London on May 1 stated: Scotland Yard detectives and the military authorities are investigating the disappearance from Buckingham Palace of a sentry of the Scots Guards, whose absence a patrolling policeman reported at 3 a.m. The precincts of the Palace were unavailingly searched until daylight. A busby and a rifle were found in Green Park, 200 yds. from the Palace, but the bayonet is missing. The Daily Mail says the disappearance of a sentry from his post while on guard at the Palace is unparalleled in the history of the Army. Next, day a further message said : Extensive inquiries have been made in regard to the disappearance of the sentry, buE there is no trace of him. The man has been posted as a deserter and a description of him has been circulated.
