THE WANGANUI MEETING.
BRIGHT PROSPECTS.
[.BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] WANGANUI, Monday., The acceptances received for the first day of the Wanganui Jockey Club's Winter Meeting are excellent and some splendid racing is promised. All of the events have filled well. A3 there are 34 left in tlio Purua Hack Handicap, the race will bo run in tv.-o divisions. The committee has increased tho stake-money to £2OO, nnd the winner of each division will receive £IOO, but there will be no stake-money for second and third horses. Tho totalisator will be opened once only on this race and tho dividends paid out on the first horse in each division. On his form at Marton Matu looks likely to be very hard to beat in the Wanganui Steeplechase, but Roman Abbey won well at Hawera -and such a clean, fast jumper is sure to be very prominent here. As a matter of fact, the Qutin Abbey gelding will probably be the first, choice of backers. Glengariff ran a. good race at Hawera on Thursday, and. though he did not have much to spare from Mister Gamp at the finish of the Tongahoe Hurdles, ho will probably show more improvement than the runuer-up. In the meantime the pair may meet in the Century Hurdles, and the result will bo awaited with interest in view of the big race at E'llerslie. Wharncliffe, who is engaged in the Wanganui Steeplechase, is credited with showing good form over country in his schooling lessons at Riccarton, but, bo may need more experience before be will strike winning form in good company over the big sticks in the North Island. Comical has arrived to fulfil his engagements at Wanganui. He has not been paid up for in the Wanganui Steeplechase, but will be a starter in the Century Hurdles. He looks remarkably well, the racing at Hastings having brightened him up, aud he is said to have been doing good schooling work.
Tlie Fordell stable has both Limited and Consent in the Borough Handicap, and the better of tho pair will be handy at tho finish
An interesting contestant in the Hack Huidles at Wanganui will be Joy King. It is said he has taken kindly to the jumping game, and. if eo, he should win some hurdle races with a bit of experience.
