RACES ON LABOUR I)AY.
AUCKLAND CLUB'S CLAIM. PROTEST FROM WAIKATO. [BY TELEGEAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Monday. A protest against tho application vf the Auckland Trotting Club to have Labour Day and the preceding Saturday olictted to it has been made by Mr. W. Lee Martin. M.P., who has telegraphed (he Minister of Internal Affairs as follows:—"A large number of my constituents view with apprehension the application of the Auckland Trotting Club to race on Labour Day. They request that, if it is in your power, you curb the propensities of city clubs grabbing all' holidays to the detriment, of the country clabs." For the last five years the Waikato Racing Club and the Waikato Hunt Club have been contending for Labour Day. The Hunt Club has raced on that day for several years, but the Auckland district committee has allotted it to the Racing Club this year.
