FIXTURE IN THE NORTH.

The fifth annual trials of the Hobson County Sheep-Dog Trials Club were held at Arapohue in favourable weather. The attendance and entries were & record, entries being received from all parts of North Auckland and from as far south as. the Bay of Plenty. The judge was Mr J. R. Corrigan, of Hawera. Following were the results

Long Head.—J. M. Butler's (Onotiki) MeClusky. 45 points, 1; M. J. Whitelaw's (Russell), Lad. 44. 2: R. Trounson's (Waipu), 3oek, 43, 3; J, Windleborn'S (Arapohue), Bob, 42, 4. Thirty-six competitors. Huntaway.—E. Sloane's (Whangarei) Toss, 42 points. 1 ; R. Trounson's (Waipu) Don, 41. -2; G K McKenzier (Maungaturoto) Kemp, 38. 3. Eighteen competitors. Ohort Head.—M J. Whitelaw's (Russell) Lad. 55} points. 1: J. M. Butler's (Opotikil McClusky, 53}, 2; F. R. Massey's (Wairere) Shep. 53, 3: O. Webb's (Arapohue) Don, 525. 4. The judge's comments upon the class and work of the dogs .was generally favourable.

EVENTS AT MATAROA.

F. ENGLAND WINS GOLD CUP.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 TAIHAPE. Sunday. The Mataroa dog trials concluded yesterday. The gold cup for class 3. head and pull, was won by F. England, of 'Hunterville. Miss Long, of Te Kuiti, has won this event three years in succession, and had she been successful this year tbe trophy would have become her permanent property. Good ertries wer* received for t all events, which were kec-ly contested. .Results are as follows: Class 1, Head. Pull and Drive.—T. \V>at, 66 points. 1: H. Harris. Cl}, 2; J. Goodwin, 64, 3; F. Envland, 611. 4 : H. Harris 60. 5. Class 2, Huntaway.—A. D. Wilson, 41 points, 1: P Norris. 405. 2; J. Thorpe, 38 3; H. Harris, -37J 4; Miss Long. 34. 5. Class 3. Head and Pull, over 100 yds; gold cup—F. England, I: T. West, 2 and 3; A. P. Wilson. 4; Miss Long. 5. Class 4, competitors under 18 Cleaver. 1: Miss Coogan. 2- J. Williams, 3;. F. Rush, 4. •-
