RUGBY UNION FINANCES.
QUESTION OF DEFICIT. DISCUSSION AT PAEROA. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN" CORRESPONDENT.] PAEROA, Friday. At tho annual meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union tho committee presented a report staling that it regretted the season, although successful from a playing point of view, had resulted a financial doficit of £l6 10s
Mr. Silcock said the excessive expenditure was principally due to the cost of entertainment and of travelling. In his opinion the union had done a little moro travelling than was necessary. Mr. J. Crosby wiici there had been a lot of talk about the union's expenses and he suggested it would bo advisablo to go into the matter of £94 13s 6d paid for travelling expenses, so as to clear tho air. Mr. Penncll said heavy expenses had been incurred by sending teams to Morrinsville and lauranga, which unions returned the visits, and in tho playing of an extra match at Waihi and sending third grade teams to Thames and To Aroha. Mr. E. Shaw advanced the view that the restoration of liquor licences to Paeroa involved the union in heavier expenditure than in the days of prohibition. Mr. W. Marshall remarked that such a statement would make people think that a lot of the entertainment money was for hotel drinks. Mr. J. M. Crosby stated emphatically that tho money spent was for meals and not for drinks. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. H. Holland; president, Mr. W. Marshall; Vice-presidents, Mrs. J. Corbett' and Messrs. ,J Brenan M. Crosby, K. Edwards, A. P. Grant W. D. Nicholas, E. Shaw, T.vlJ. Vuglar' J. \Yalmsley and ,7. Young; secretary' iMr. J.
