WHEAT TOSITION UNCHANGED. fBY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURC'H, Friday. The wheat market is unchanged". Tho possibility that the good progress of threshings would depress the market has not been realised. Business is not very active, but the recent value of up to 5s 8d a bushel on trucks has been operating in any transactions that have been made. The oats market is unchanged. Few oats are offering, but thn outlet is practically nil. Up to 2s lOd on trucks is the current offer for A Cartons, with B's from 2s 5d to 2s 7d. Potatoes have fluctuated during the week. On Tuesday, f.0.b., s.i., prompts, could be secured at £5. On Wednesday the price improved to £5 7s 6d, and business was done before a steadying set in at £5 10s. This figure has now eased to £5 5s to £5 7s 6d. A more sustained improvement has taken place for JulySeptember deliveries, which are easier by 7s 6d to 10s a ton to £6 10s, f.0.b., s.-i. A fair quantity has been sold at £6 10s for the months mentioned. Auckland merchants are not inquiring much for April potatoes, as the tubers to hand and in transit are ample for impending needs. There is some talk of blight, and it is understood that several hundred sacks have heen turned down at Lvttelton. The Kurow, sailing to-morrow, is expected to take about 3000 sacks, and a smaller consignment will be despatched by tho Wingatui early next Week. Cabled advice -from Sydney is to the effect that the New Zealand onions shipped some weeks ago were of fair to medium quality, arid sold at £lO 10s to £ll a ton. Duty, freight, sacks and rail and other charges represent up to £4 5s a ton, so this leaves a better price than the local market. The Karetu on Tuesday night took a further cargo of 10,000 cental sacks, or about 400 tons. There is no change in seed values, and the Northern demand is slack. Some good samples of 'Marlborough cowgrass are offering, and local- offers of white clover are more numerous. Up to lOjd a lb. has been offered lor exceptional qualitw average quotations ranging from 8d to"l0d. PRODUCE IN OTAGO. LITTLE CHANGE IX MARKET. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. J DUNEDIX, Friday. The wheal market shows very little change. Millers are holding fairly large stocks of Tuscan, and are only interested at the present time in Hunters and Velvet, which they require for mixing purposes. There is not a great deal of Tuscan on offer, as most of the lines have been placed on a forward delivery basis. If is now learned that.a. quantity of this wheat was damaged by the heavy rains, although the first reports stated it had not been affected. This wheat is now being rejected by millers: as not. being up to the standard required. Tuscan is quoted at 5s 7d on trucks, sacks extra. Hunters at 6s and Velvet at 6s 6d. Fowl wheat is in more plentiful supply, and 5s lOd, sacks extra, on truck, can lie j quoted as the ruling price on the local market to-day. The oats market has not yet become stabilised. The prices being paid in the country are still above the shipping parity, which is 3s 6d f.0.b., s.i., for A's and 3s 3d for B's. Lines of heavy oats are, however, saleable at up to 3s Id, sacks extra, on trucks, at country sidings. In several instances much higher prices were paid for oats under milling quality than was warranted in view of the current shipping quotations. The values to farmers to-day are 3s Id, sacks extra, on trucks, for heavy quality. 2s lid for A s and 2s 8d for B's. The demand for chaff is still very slow, and only odd sales are being made, exstore, at £5 15s. sacks included. The general quotation for delivery ex truck is £5 10s per ton, sacks extra. Larger supplies are arriving from Central Ot-ago this year. The market continues to be over supplied with potatoes, and sales are hard to effect. Best quality are selling at, C 5 5s per toil, sacks included. It is noticeable that some of the lines coming in are badly affected with blight., ami these tubers" are almost unsaleable. The seed market shows a firmer feeling, especiallv as regards ryegrass. It' is now realised that ryegrass is in short supply. Prices are firm, but there is no upward movement so far. The dogstail market remains stationary at the recent advance, and fescue ;s also firm.
