Mrs. Thomas .Toll, of Northcoto, left by tho Mavama yesterday for a visit of three months to her sister, Mrs. Ray men t. at Sydney. Mrs. Grant Cowon and her daughter havo arrived in England and Miss Grant Cowon will shortly commence her studies at the Royal Academy of Music. Mrs. E. P. Titchener, of Devonport, was a passenger by the Marama for Sydney yesterday to join the Beltana for England. Mrs. Titchener is visiting her parents in London after an absence of eight years. Tho monthly meeting of the Mount Albeit branch of the W.C.T.U. was held in tho Baptist Sunday School on Thursday afternoou. Mrs. Bruce gave an interesting report of tho convention recently held at Wellington. It was decided to form a Loyal Temperance League and a committee was elected to organise and start the movement. •/An enjoyable afternoon was held at tho Birkenhead and Northcoto Tennis Club's courts on Thursday. The players from tho various clubs included Mesda.mes Rickerby, 'Fowler, Svmes, Cooper Coldham, Butler, Martin, Weaver, Tyer, Buttlo, McFetlidge, Gray, Misses Kennedy, Major, Hardley, Durham, Bolton, Bushill, Darling, C. Bryant and I>. Bryant. The prizes were won "by Miss Bushill and Miss Peril am. Mrs. Douglas Hill was hostess at an enjoyable afternoon tea given at her homo Wharepunga, in Huapai, on Thursday, for Mrs. .1. Orme and her daughter Gladys, who aro leaving shortly for an overseas . trip. Mrs. Ormo was presented with a bouquet of handerchiet's, tho gifts of her friends.
