TAURANGA COUNTY NOTES.
KAITUNA RIVER OUTLET. MAKETU NOT ENDANGERED. [HY TKI.KCH.vrH. OWN' CORKKSI'OXDENT. ] TAURANGA. Friday. The Taunwga County Council lias received a communication from the Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Public Works, in reply to representations by tlio council regarding (he possible danger of .inundation of tho Maketu township, owing to the. gradual erosion of the sandhills on the ocean beach, due to the action of the Kaituna River outlet. The -Minister stated that the district engineer at Tauranga recently visited the locality, but he, did not consider there was any danger to . the township, as the erosion was gradual and the engineer considered it was probable that the outlet would, after ;i time, tend to move west again. It was considered that any action in the meantime was unnecessary.
The Hon. \V. B. Taverner, Minister of Railways, has ;.dvised the council that he will be pleased to givo every consideration to the council's representations regarding the Paeroa-l'okeno railway. It is understood that all members of (he Tamanga County Council except Mr. T. Tanner will seek re-election at .he, triennial election. Mr. Tanner, who is ono of tlio Te Pnke Hiding members, is not standing on account of his health.
