CHANGING SCHOOL BOOKS.
PROTEST AT THE PRACTICE.
ALLEGATION OF EXPLOITATION.

DUNEDIN, Thursday That too frequent changes were made in school books and that it was undesirable that school inspectors should bo permitted to hold shares in printing funis publishing school books were two statements made at tho quarterly meeting of tho School Committees' Association tonight. The matter was introduced in ft letter from tho secretary of the St. Clair School Committee, who said it. seemed as if they were never going< to l'cacii finality. The chairman, Mr. R. Armit, said tho association was powerless to do anything, but it was in sympathy with the protest. Mr. H. Hal lid ay said ho was strongly opposed to any exploitation of school books by printers. Ho was also opposed to any inspector in New Zealand being a shareholder in a printing firm wine, was turning out school books. Other members strongly protested against the changes in the books, P 0 ' 1 . 1 *" ing out that parents with large families were heavily penalised. The two following resolutions were carried: —That this association forward * protest to the Education Board regarding the constant changes in school books, with a request that it be sent to the department, and that a copy also be forwarded to each association; that the matter of inspectors holding shares in printing firms turning out school books be referred to the executive, •.»
