Miss E. Dalrymple, of Auckland, is visiting Christchurch.

Mrs. V. B. Bailey, of Auckland, is visit ing her mother in Wanganui East.

Mrs. Charlton Dawson, of Upland I load, Remuera, has returned from a visit to Wanganui.

Mrs. William Watson, of Wellington, is visiting Auckland, and is staying .it the Hotel Cargcn.

Mrs. Ivan Jennings has returned to Wellington after spending some days at the Hotel Cargcn. in Auckland.

.Miss Ida Rix and Miss Ada Philip, of Dunedin, are nt present on a visit to Auckland and are staying at Royal Court.

Miss Melville left for Wellington last overling to attend a. meeting of (he New Zealand Libraries' Association, of which she is president.

Mrs. Frank Burnsido, Miss Cut forth, •and the Misses Burnsido, of Pnpatoetoe, have returned from a motoring trip to the Waitomo Caves.

Mrs. W. R. Worthington, of Milford, with Miss Stewart, of Scotland, left for a motor tour of tho North Island. Sho will visit friends in Napier, Hawkc's Bay, as well.

Mrs. E. A. Leppcr, of Northcote, has returned from a fortnight's motor tour through the North Island. She was accompanied by her daughters. Misses Myrtle and Connie Leppcr, and her son, Mr. 11. R- Leppcr.

Dr. Minnie F. Varley, of the Sudan Interior Mission, is visiting Auckland, and will address several meetings on her work in Africa. She is a. grand-daughter of Mi*. Henry Varley, who was formerly kfiown throughout the world as an evangelist.

A progressive croquet afternoon was given by Mrs. Kew Harty, president of the Devonport Bowling Green Croquet Club, on Monday afternoon. There was a large gathering of members and a very pleasant time was spent. Brightly coloured dahlias decorated the tea fables, which wore set in the bowling pavilion. Prizes were won by Mrs. Broughton, A grade, and Mrs. IT. Cooper, B grade. Mrs. McDougall and Mrs. If. S. W. King were the winners of the consolation prizes.

Mrs. M. Marshall was hostess at. a "cup, saucer and plate" tea given for Miss'Oona Grattan in the Tudor Tearooms yesterday. Zinnias in warm autumn shades decorated the tables, and among the guests were Mrs. V. Lang, Mrs. W. White, Mrs. E. Bray, Miss K. Grattan, Miss G. Court. Miss A. Gordon and Miss A. Worrall. The hostess wore a jumper suit of cardinal jersey velour with a hat to match and Miss Grattan was in a frock of delphinium blue crepe dc chine with a blue felt bat to tone

Mrs. David Latimer, who is leaving for England and America. on Tuesday.. Mrs. Daly (Miss Edith Harrhy) and the Misses Izard, were, the guests of the Lyceum Club at tea yesterday morning. The lounge was very attractively arranged with dahlias and zinnias, and Mrs. W. H. Parkes, president, received the guests. Among those present were: Mrs. Archdale Tayler, Mrs. Ashton, Mrs. Rowley, Miss Janet Murrav. Mrs. W. Cook, Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, Miss E. Robertson, Mrs. Dickenson, Mrs. K. Gordon, Mrs. Buttle, Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Tracy lnglis, Mrs. Corbin, Mrs. Furbv, Mrs. Colson, Mis.-: Rennall, Miss F. Murray.

Yesterday morning Mrs. J. S. Brigham entertained the wives of the heads of departments of the City Council, and other guests, at a morning tea, so that they might bid farewell to Mrs. Rush, who is leaving with her family for Brisbane, Queensland, shortly. Vivid autumn flowers were arranged in (ho lounge, and Mrs. Brigham received wearing a frork of black marocain with rose chiffon sleeves and black velvet coat, with hat to match. Miss Brigham, who assisted her mother, was in printed crepe do chine and a navv blue coat lined to tone with the frock, and a grey hat. Mrs. Bush woro a green figured crepe de chine frock with a black coat and a black hat. Miss Bush was in a grey ensemble suit. During the morning Mrs. Brigham spoke of the amity and friendship for Mrs. Bush which had always existel. She wished her success and pleasant times in her new surroundings, and on behalf of the gathering handed her a brown leather handbag with her initials upon it in gold. The guests were:—Mrs. A. D. Campbell (Mayoress), Mrs. Stanton, Mrs. Ford, Mrs. de Guerrier Mrs. St. John Clark, Mrs. Pearson. Mrs. Messer, Mrs. Hogan, Mrs. Rugg, Mrs. Haynes, Mrs. Not ley, and Mrs. Meade.
