TO-DAY'S WEATHER. HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:—Fair "to fino weather is indicated generally, with cold night temperatures and frosts inland. Variable and moderate breezes, south-easterlies prevailing, and backing by east to north. Seas smooth to moderato. Fine weather is expected to conlinuo for sevoral days. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—An intense anticyclone now covers the New Zealand area and a slight depression is advancing 011 to the east coast of Australia. Indications are for moderate to strong south to southeast winds, decreasing gradually and later becoming variable. Seas still rough on the east coast north of Kaikoura, but soon moderating, otherwise smooth to moderate. Light to moderate variable winds later tending east and north and smooth- to moderate seas in the eastern Tasman. Still somo showers on the east coast between Castlepoint and East Cape, but weather otherwise fino. Cold night temperatures, but milder to-morrow. RAINFALL RECORD.
