GOOD SEASON FOR LAMBS.
DAIRY OUTPUT MAINTAINED. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] MORRINSVILLE, Thursday. Since November 120 trucks of fat lambs from the Kereone and Kiwitahi districts have left the Kiwitahi railway station. Eight trucks of early lambs were consigned in November, but in December the figure increased to 60, while there was only a slight falling off in January, when 52 trucks were loaded. As the capacity of each truck is 120 lambs, the approximate total of lambs (hat have left the district b.. train this season is 14,400, a considerable advance on last year's figures. New settlers on the sheep country behind Motumaoho are highly optimistic regarding the future of this area. On a 900-aoe block fronting the Kuruanui Road Mr. R. Batty last year wintered 1400 e>ves, from which a lambing percentage of 100 was obtained. The number of cows tested by the New Zealand Herd-Testing Association, in the Morrinsville district in December, 1928, was 6984. compared with 7271 in December, 1927
A feature of the dairying season is the remarkable way in which the stock are maintaining production. The returns at one factory give an indication of the position. At "the flush of the season the output per day was 29 cheeses, jind last week it was 25 cheeses, a drop of only four. Three vats are still in use, but it is expected that, onlv two will be necessary to cope with the supply by the end of February
