FARCICAL PROCEEDINGS

- IRISH LOCAL COUNCIL.

AN INTERMINABLE . DEBATE.

Australian and N:Z. Press Association. (Received February 6, 5.5 p.m.) : / V LONDON, Feb., 5. A meeting of the newly-elected local council at Warren Point, Ireland, had lasted 24 hours at 7 p.m. yesterday. Bedsteads and mattresses were then taken into the room for a second-all-night sit; ing.

This is the third time the council has met to elect a chairman. It .has, not been able to do so because of a deadlock, six members voting for each of the two candidates. In the meanwhile the public services are dislocated while the members heatedly debate the chairmanship until they are tired and then sleep, chat amicably or play cards and chess. Their friends are supplying them with food.
