RAIN IN AUSTRALIA.
BENEFICIAL EFFECTS.
END OF ' DROUGHT EXPECTED,
(Received February 6, 10.55 p.m.)
SYDNEY, Feb. G.
Pain fell on Monday and again yesterday. This hac. tho effect of partially breaking tho drought, which had been
affecting the greater part of New South Wales.
Good rains were experienced in the north-western districts as far as the coast, also on tho south coast. The indications point to rain in the parched areas in the Lack blocks.
Tile Government meteorologist expects that the rain in tho eastern parts of Now South Wales and Victoria will spread inland, and cause a general breaking of the drought within a week.
A number of western centres already report heavy storms. Terrific hail fell at Wellington and Dunedoo, killing hundreds of sheep. The welcome break in the weather has caused universal relief.
