REMITS AT CONFERENCE.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

CHRISTCBURCH, Wednesday
The annual conference of the Now Zealand Ironmasters' Fede. ation was opened in Christchurch to-day. Mr. G. M. Hall, president, welcomed the visiting delegates and the Mayor, llev. J. K. Archer, also extended a welcome. Mr. Archer said he did not think there . was any industry which spent so large a percentage of its earnings in wages as did the engineering industry. The following remits were passed:— That the attention of the Government bo directed to the limitation of apprentices brought about by the recent Act regarding , apprentices, with a request that the whole matter be reconsidered in the interests ' of the apprentices and the trade generally.; (Auckland Association); to give consideration to the case of an application of a worker foe an appointment as third year apprentice to engineering (Wellington-. Association); that as the results of the recent industrial conference were, probably because of the wide scopo of the inquiry, somewhat inconclusive, the Government be asked- to arrange a conference to consider practical questions affecting the future of the engineering industry in New Zealand ( Auckland Association) ; that further consideration ba given to the question of payment of wages # to youths while attending military training camps (Auckland Association). The following officers were elected:— - President, Mr., H.'C. Mitchell (Welhngton); vice-president, Mr. George Gpy-;. fDunedin); assessors for, the Coiicnmaon Council, Messrs. A. W. Beayen ■ (Ch ) _ church), A. C. Mitchell ( Wellington). J. S. Davves (Auckland), L. L. Cbrdery (Christchurch), Georgo Giay Black (Dunedin).
