ALLEGATIONS OF THEFT.
THE ACCUSED REMANDED.
.--. described, by the police as a. well-known .thief, Tc aged. 57, was charged ■ in the Police Court yesterday with stealing a watch, valued at £2O, and five cheques, belonging to Ah Lee, at Te . P-apapa. :• : Chief-Detective Hammond said accused was an old and well-known thief, and had been declared an habitual criminal. For some time' he had been about the Chinese'hffltS at Mangerei Other charges would' be preferred against him. To enable inquiries' to be made, accused was remanded to appear next Wednesday. A plea of guilty was entered by Hector McLeod, aged 35, a seaman, •on the steamer Kia Ora, who was charged with fighting in Quay Street on Won day evenirtg- According to the police, accused Tiad been in a disturbance in which three of his companions were involved. He had been rendered unconscious and had to be taken to the Auckland Hospital. Expenses totalled £2 14s Id. Accused was convicted and ordered to pay the expenses. _ On a charge of using indecent language, John K. Browne,-of Tnkapuna, was fined £3.
