MORE ELECTRIC TOWER.
AID FROM WAIKAHEMOANA.
RELIEF FCR MANGAHAO.
The Waikaremoana hydro-electric power system has for the past few days been giving relief to Mangahao by continuing to supply the Napier and Hastings area. The service nas been extended down the east coast districts to Masterton. Though this combined load of 5000 kilowatts represents only a small part of the capacity of the 16,000-kilowatt generator unit in commission, the station was ready last Thursday to take over the Palmerston load if necessary, but was not called upon to do so.
Adjustments inseparable from initial operations were made from time to time, but the station is ready now to take the major part of the Mangahao load, including Wellington, should a dry spell result in a falling of the level of the Mangahao dams. The installation of the second 16,000-kilowatt generator has been commenced, but this work will occupy several months. The first great unit, however, with Mangahao, will be well ablo to cope with the demand this summer.
