PAY OF PUBLIC SERVANTS.
AGITATION FOR INCREASE,
CONSIDERATION BY CABINET,
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWX COESESPOXDEXT. W KTjT.TX GTOJT, SiSarijj.
The Government is giving attention to the salaries of public servants, and it is possible that an early announcement wiE be made -whether it is the intention to restore the " cuts " made by the legislation of 1522.
The question of the restoration o? the " cuts " was ihe subject cf oonaderabie discussion during the general election canspaign, and since the new GovennEeni came into office representations have been mad© by vaxious branches of the service. Yesterday a deputation from the exscaiive council of the New Zealand Railway Tradesmen's Association interviewed the
Minister oiE Railways, Hon. W. B. Taverner, and the general manager of railways, Mr. H. H. Sterling, and requested that the " cats" should be restored.
In his reply, the Minister stated thai ths question was receiving the consideration of Cabinet.
Members of the deputation stated subsequently that there appeared to be every reason to believe that the new Government would do something in the direction of restoring to some extent the reanction of wages imposed in 1922.
