AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. PROGRAMME FOR REGATTA. Following is the proposed programme for llio Auckland Rowing Association's championship regatta to bo held on the Whau River on March o:—Maiden double sculls. 2 p.m.. prize of £4, XI; junior fours, 2.15 p.m., £7, it; maiden fours, lOsfe and under, 2.43 p.m., £5, £1; senior fours, 3 p.m., £lO. £'2; single sculls handicap, 3.15 p.m.. £5. £1; maiden fours, open, 3.45 p.m., £O. £1: eight oars, 4.15 p.m.; maiden pair oars, 4.30 p.m.. £1 £U youths' fours. 5 p.m.. i's. £1; junior pair oars, 5.15 p.m., £l, £l. Each event carrie 3 the association's trophies and certificates. The eight-oar race will be a test between town and country clubs and tho crews will be cither drawn or selected by tho association's officials on the day. WAITEMATA CLUB. PRESIDENT'S TRIAL FOURS. The Waitemata Boating Club commenced a series of trial fours on Saturday afternoon for trophies donated by Mr. \N. l/ciiison, president. Owing to an accident to one of the boats, which considerably delayed tho racing, only four .neats were decided. The remaining races will be ro\\«l this week. Eight crews entered and the course in Hobson Buy. sheltered from the north-east wind, was used because of the rough water on tho long harbour course. Mr. H. Cullen was judge and the starting was by mutual consent. Tho first heat crews were:—C. G. l'earon (4). D. Shorn (3). J. Howard (2), J. Hammoud (l)i Cr. Orgau (cox); J. Stevenson (4). R. Smith (3), T. Wilson (2), W. Jones (1), T. Conway (cox). Setting a fast puce the crews raced evenly for the first quarter of a mile. Pearon then started to forge ahead and. shaking of! Stevenson's challenges. won by a length and a-half. The second hent crews were:—A. M. MacKay (-1). C. B. Head (3). C. C. Cairns (2). T. Conway <l>, G. Organ (cox); .T. Beesley (4), C. T. Kcegan (3). N. Hunt (2). R. Pierce (1). C. Cairns (cox). Beesley's crew was auickest away and held a length's lead at the first gap. Mackay's crew, swinging together better, then started to overhaul the leaders and at tho three-quarter distance mark took tho lead, going on to win by a bare length. The third lieat crews were:—L. Brooker (4), P. Piatt (3). 11. Fenrick Q2). F. Sadler (1). G. Organ (cox); T. Impey (4). E. H. Bishop (3), K. Sherson (2), A. Young (1). C. Cairns (cox). Brooker's crew soon took the lead, but in the rough water at the gap Impey drew level, and just # past halfway went to the front. An exciting finish ended in Impey winning by half a length. The fourth heat crews were:—G. Barker ft), .T. Lawrenco (3), D. Gladding (2). P. F. Simmons (1), G. Orgnn (cox): J. H. Beesley (4). J. Russell (3), C. McGehan (2). P. Usher (1). C. Cairns (cox). Beesley's crew jumped ahead at the start and won comfortably by two lengths. WEST END CLUB. SCHMIDT DOUBLE SCULLS. The West Er.d Rowing Club resumed its trial racijig programme on Saturday afternoon with handicap double sculls for trophies donated by Mr. H. Schmidt, vicepresident. Owing to tho rough water the short course from the reclamation to the boathouse was used, but even then, chiefly on account of the falling tide, the three lieats were rowed. The remaining races will be decided on Thursday evening, starting at 6 p.m. Six crews competed and Mr. R. F. Meikle. secretary of the WJiangarei Rowing Club, was judge. In the first heat, V. McFarlane and S. Macey (us) met Gilligan and L. McDonald (lis). There was considerable delay at tlie start because of the rough water. McFarlane and Macey bad little troublo in winning easily. J. "Haylock and P. Soufflott (10s) met R. Woodaide and F. Baker (6s) in the second heat. Haylock and Soufflott made the best of their handicap and led for the first quartor. A hard race ensued to tho wharf, wliero Woodside and Baker took the .lead. A most, exciting run to the line ended in Woodside getting the judge's verdict by about a foot. In the third boat F. Conway and C. Conway (Is) met A. O. Norden and W. Conway (Gs). Nor don led to the half-way mark. The Conway brothers then drew level. Both crews spurted o.pd in a hardfought race over the remainder of the journey the Conway brothers won by about half a length. AUCKLAND CLUB. PAIR-OAR RACING POSTPONED. Owing to the rough weather (ho pair-oar trials arranged by the Auckland Rowing Club were postponed. INTER-CLUB CREWS SELECTED. Tho selectors ot tho Auckland Rowing Club have chosen the following crews for the inter-club races:— Mason Pairs, Saturday next.—A. Ross (stroke), R. Mahon (bow), F. Orrell (cox). Smith Shield.
