TROTTING.

CANTERBURY GOSSIP. TRAINING AT ADDINGTON. ' LINGFIELD BACK TO FORM. NOTES FROM THE TRACK. [BY TELECB.U'II. —OWN CORtIESrONPENT.] CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday. Cnnnonball is trotting in good style in his work, but ho is handicapped up to his best form. Ho may show tho improvement ~'-o succeed, but he will TiUcM v eut a capital ~c. ,t Forbury Park and tho Author Dillon mare is back to her best form. Tomkinson has had a lot of trouble witb her. but she should win a race soon. . ~, Tho trotter Peter Fashion is in solid work again He showed a lot of promise as a young horse, but then trained off somewhat. The spell should have done him a lot of good and ho may show further improvement. Sarella injured herself aomo little time ago and had to be given a spell. She has been mated with Rey do Oro and is not likely to bo raced much longer. The pacei Grot Abdallab in G. McKendry's stable may provo to bo a useful sort, but ho seems best suited to short

courses. Proud Ata u being kept in steady work at Addington. Tho trotter has never looked better and although ho is not showing improved speed ho is going more steadily in his races, _ . ( Apex was unlucky in his recent racing, but ho is only a beginner, and is likely to show further improvement. Like most of Denver Huon's stock ho is a good stayer and should bo a useful pacer next season. Tho Australian' trotter Tonic has built up considerably during tho last few months, but it does not yet seem as though he will reach high honours here. He is none too reliable at tho beginning of his races and this defect places him at a decided disadvantage. He does not stay out two miles if tho speed is solid all the way and until Tomkinson can develop moro stamina in Tonic ho will not win good races over a two-mile journey.

Epigram looks well and is pacing capi tally in his work.

Golden Devon has improved in manners at the barrier and now goes away at a fast clip. The West Coast-owned sprinter is on a very tight mark, however, and ]jo will require to bliow improvement to have any chance of being returned a winner. , C. Taskcr is keeping Western Voyage going along steadily. The Australian-bred trotter has not been a great success since ho came here, but he may show improvement when next raced.

R. Dunn has Double Event looking well, but thero does not seem to be much improvement in the manners o£ the pacer. He was very fractious one morning this week at Addington.

Vesuvius cut one of his heels rather badly a few weeks ago and had to be eased in his work. He is now well on the way to complete recovery and is doing more sober work in training. Glideaway, who won the Dunedin Cup at the recent Forbury Park meeting, looks none the worse for her racing and travelling. The Australian-bred mare is a particularly free goer in races and when she won in Dunedin sho appeared to succeed very oasily. NELSON CLUB'S MEETING. ONLY ONE FAVOURITE LOSES.
