HIGHWAYS IN BOROUGH.

The Opotiki Borough Council has been advised by the district engineer that the question of declaration of additional streets in the borough as main highways had been deferred until the annual review bv the Main Highways Board. The question of the purchase of plant by the council was also referred to the engineer who recommended that this matter be deferred until further inquiries had been made. When this communication was considered by (ho council tlie town clerk stated that arrangements for the purchase of plant had already been made. A Jotter was read from tho Health Department in connection with tho disposal of a portion of the present cemetery and the acquisition of a new site. It was pointed out that an Order in Council would bo necessary before a portion of tho present cemetery could bo disposed of.
The council decided it could not be represented at the conference of municipal associations owing to the state of its finances.
