INTOXICATED DRIVER.
CHARGE FOLLOWS ACCIDENT. FINE OF FIFTEEN POUNDS. As the result of a collision with ;v tramway centre-pole in Queen Street, Onehunga, near the intersection of Captain Street, early on Saturday morning Kenneth Caldert, driver of Iho car, was charged in the Onehunga Police Court on Saturday before Messrs. J. E. Cowell and ,J. E. Green, J.l'.'s, with being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car. A plea of guilty was entered. Sergeant Burncll said that so great was the speed of the car that it was damaged beyond repair and was doubled up round the. pole.. There was a red light on the post, to show the presence of a tramway clock. ])r. .7. Kirk wood, who had attended to some slight injuries to (.'aiders, said that, in his opinion accused was intoxicated and was unfit t<> drive a car.
Mr. Osborne Lilly, who appeared for accused, said the accident was caused hy the driver of an approaching motor ear, who dimmed his lights and then turned tluun <lll again, blinding ("alders. Accused was fined £ls, with £2 Is costs, his licence being cancelled until May 31, 1930.
