THE PRESENCE.
Did you ever tramp in tho hills at night, Alone, through tho frosted snow; When the white heights shono with a ghostly light In the cold, dim starlight glow? Did you often stop, did you glance around; Did your spine go cold and queer ? Did you strain your ears and expect- the sound Of another's footsteps near ? Can it be that the hills' Creator drifts Down here to the heights at night, And rises again when the darkness lifts, Like mist in tho morning light? p-lan .Wood, in Chambers' Journal.
