MEETING AT KAWAKAWA.
The Bay of Islands Racing Club will hold its annual taco meeting at Kawakawa on the 10th inst., and it is plcr.smg to slate that matters shape satisfactorily for a successful gathering at the historic settlement. It is announced that a steamer is timed to leave Auckland on Friday night, January 18, and will return on the night following. Special train facilities at excursion fares aro also notified. Acceptances for the various races close next Wednesday at 5 p.m., and the same may be lodged either with the secretary, Mr. T. J. V. Dunlop, Kawakawa, or with Messrs'. Blomfield and Co.. High Street. Auckland. OPOTIKI MEETING. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OPOTIKI, Friday. Prospects are tright for iho annual meeting of the Opotiki Jockey Club, which takes place next Wednesday. Acceptances are larger than last year and about 12 outside horses aro expected, three from Gisborne arriving to-morrow. Training operations are causing a lot of interest, with somo good times being accomplished. Yesterday morning Lady Castlemaine did four furlongs in 525, and Mosaic the same. On the outside course Nancy Lee did five furlongs in 665. and Mosque four in 51 iS. Tho Author and Tall Timber did five furlong 3in under 1.8. Master Clements, Overthrow and Simeon were restricted to pacing, while Otangihaku and Kiwinui were worked on tho beach.
